MIND YOUR TIME!

Time is what we want most but use worst – William Penn.

“I have wasted so much time “- I don’t know how many times that has been my sad reality.

To fight that demon, I researched about different models different people use to manage their time efficiently and below I share some of the strategies I found.

Pick what works for you;

  1. Model of Time Blocks: This involves blocking off time for activities/tasks and marking them as priority in a selected block. Have a priority task per block. Avoiding any unnecessary additions/distractions during that block. Consistence is key.
  2. Having a daily Priority Matrix / The daily 5 daily concept. – Identify Key activities to accomplish within the next 24 hours and then map them out as well as on a weekly basis. A maximum of 5 activities across the 5 capitals of life per week: Finances, Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Relationships. Yes, per week!! For all the times you have scheduled 20 things to do per week, how many tasks where you able to tick off?
  3. Assess what activities you engage in that don’t add value. Identify and eliminate or delegate tasks that contribute little to your overall goals.
  4. Eat the big frog first and Fast: Identifying the most difficult task and completing it before starting on others especially in the morning hours.
  5. Timing your activities / 60-10 Model: Using a timer or an alarm to manage the activities/tasks within a set period. The 60-10 Method – 60mins, concentrate on one thing. Then take a 10 mins break. Then move to the next.
  6. Exercising the body, mind, and spirit: Caring for my mindset, health set, heart set and soul set; Read, Meditate, Exercise, pray! This increases Productivity. For example, 1 hour a day for prayer, 1 hour for reading.
  7. Learn on the Move: Utilize travel time by listening to intellectual audios. Transform commuting hours into opportunities for personal development and increased productivity. For example, listen to a podcast when stuck in traffic.
  8. Create systems of ease for example hiring a personal assistant to manage with town errands. Where you can, work through people. It is a Win-Win.
  9. The Pareto Principle. As shared by John Maxwell; The Idea Is to Focus Your Attention on The Activities That Rank in The Top 20 Percent in Terms of Importance, You Will Have An 80 Percent Return On Your Effort. If Your To-Do List Has Ten Items on It, The Two Most Important Ones Will Give You An 80 Percent Return on Your Time.
